The winter meeting of the academic developer community (ADC) took place on Friday, 2/26/16. Eighteen technical staff from several Harvard schools plus a few HUIT groups joined the lunchtime conversation.
The meeting began with each group providing a brief overview of the work their team is engaged in. For example:
- LTS has recently launched the Library Reserves tool, which displays in Canvas to faculty and students and interfaces with back-office systems for librarians to manage course reserves.
- The Chan School of Public Health has recently released a roster tool that takes advantage of the Canvas API and Harvard institutional data.
- The Extension School has been engaged in working on their video platform, based on Matterhorn, and have also developed ways of easily running environments to develop LTI tools in Ruby and Python.
- ATG (FAS) has been working on a project around annotations and displaying image collections using Mirador, in collaboration with HarvardX and the Libraries.
These overviews fostered discussion by the group.
From there, the group looked at different LTI extension points supported by Canvas. Because many of the groups are developing or have plans to develop LTI tools to extend Canvas, this was an interesting and useful overview of the possibilities and use cases for integration.
The next ADC meeting is scheduled to take place on Friday, April 8, 12 noon to 1:30pm. As always, lunch will be provided. Agenda and location will be posted on the TLT site closer to the date.
