Final Coffee & Canvas Event of the Year

May 4, 2016

Academic support professionals from across the Schools got together on May 4 for the final Coffee & Canvas event of the academic year.

The event began with TLT program updates, focusing on remaining TLT work and key dates to roll out the new Canvas user interface.

From there, Senior Instructional Technologist Erin Provensal and Instructional Technologist Lucy Killewo, both from T.H. Chan School of Public Health, presented on using Canvas for group and peer assessment. For each type of assessment, they first outlined their process then shared key benefits and challenges.

The second part of the event focused on a group activity to think about ways to deepen use of Canvas in order to broaden teaching and learning impact. Tables were asked to first think of a few teaching / learning challenges they have heard about at their schools and ways technology might address each challenge. They then considered perceived and / or actual barriers that faculty and teaching staff might raise. Finally, each group discussed possible resources to reduce or remove each barrier.

The event concluded with agreement that these convenings are helpful both to Schools and to HUIT and that they should continue next year.
